Suggestions Become Beliefs

The things that you were told and the way that you were treated as a child have influenced the way you view the world today. All of the things that you have encountered through life have been suggestions and because children do not have any experience or information to refute the suggestions, they automatically believe those suggestions.

Think of all of the things that you have been told and the way that you were treated and realize that you have believed that you are that person. But take a moment to consider the possibility that you can be anyone that you want to be.

What if you had been born into a different family? What if you had been raised with a different set of standards? You would have believed THAT set of suggestions resulting in a different person altogether.

Suggestions begin a chain of events that result in behavior, either good or not so good, depending on the suggestion.

For example, if as a child you were told that you were smart, strong, capable and could do anything that you wanted. First, you believed it.

Second, the belief became a feeling. So you had feelings of adequacy and confidence.

Next the feeling became an attitude. You faced every situation with calm assurance and if any challenges came up, you simply tried harder. (After all, you already knew you could do it.)

Finally the attitude became a behavior. You studied harder, spent more time at the library. You proved the suggestions were right by your behavior.

But... what if you were told the opposite? What if you were told that you would never amount to anything? Use the same chain and realize that this suggestion became a belief, which became feelings of inadequacy. Your attitude was "Why should I even try?" And your behavior was skipping classes, never finishing homework. (After all, you already knew that you couldn't do it.)

How could the same person end up so different? Simply by the suggestions that were given (mostly as a child).

Is it possible to change those basic belief systems and become a better person? The answer is, "YES!". Understanding that the chain can be used to your benefit, is the first step. Then begin to learn self-hypnosis so that new suggestions will be accepted (the sub-conscious mind is where suggestions become beliefs). The chain begins again, only this time you will give yourself positive suggestions to become the fantastic, tender human being that you want to be.
