National Guild of Hypnotists
The National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH)is actually an international organization based in the U.S. that trains and supports hypnotists and hypnotherapists around the world.
This group was founded in 1951 by Dr. Rexford L. North who amazingly was totally deaf, yet had a very successful career as a hypnotist, showman and teacher. He trained many of the most admired hypnotists in North America today. The motto of the NGH is, "The National Guild of Hypnotists provides an open forum for a free exchange of ideas concerning hypnotism." Each year a large convention is held in Marlborough, Massachusetts and a second, smaller gathering in Las Vegas, the Solid Gold Weekend. These events are attended by people from the world over looking for ways to improve their skills and network with like-minded people. The NGH also publishes the Journal of Hypnotism and the Hypno-Gram to keep members up to date on advancements and concerns. The NGH has survived all these years under the direction, first of Dr. North and today under the direction of one of his pupils, Dr. Dwight Damon. And although many of the members of the NGH are doctors and psychologists, this group believes that it is possible to be a great hypnotist without the formal medical training. They believe that a well-trained hypnotist can benefit the public by adhering to a strict Code of Ethics that is set down for their members. Dr. Damon is currently supporting hypnotism as a separate profession similar to chiropractic practitioners. It is the opinion of this author that very soon hypnotism will be an accredited course of study at colleges and universities. That will be a good day since the course will be of universal length and subject matter. Every graduate will then have the ability to help with a wide variety of issues and will be accepted into hospitals, clinics and hospices and the real winner will be you, the public.
